In Mortal Kombat 11, players can perform two types of throws, a forward throw and a back throw, and breaking these grapples require certain inputs to be entered with precise timing. More specifically, players can counter a forward throw by pressing back punch or back kick, and they can counter a back throw by pressing forward punch or forward kick. This means that MK11 asks players to try to predict the direction that they will be thrown, but that is not the case with the Joker’s throws at this time.

Instead, all of the Joker’s throws in Mortal Kombat 11 can currently be broken by pressing back punch or back kick. In fact, Joker’s back throws cannot be countered at all with a forward throw or a forward punch, which means that players should never attempt to break the new Mortal Kombat 11 Kombat Pack character’s throws with those inputs. This can all be seen demonstrated in the video found below, and it is something that fans should be aware of when playing with and against the Joker.
The problem created by this MK11 Joker throw bug is that it makes it impossible for the character to ever use grapples to open up their opponent. Indeed, it completely eliminates the 50/50 nature of Mortal Kombat 11’s throws, and while some players might suggest that is for the best, it is certainly not what in line with what players expect when they go into battle.
At the time of writing, NetherRealm Studios has not commented on this Mortal Kombat 11 Joker throw bug, but it stands to reason that it will be addressed quite promptly. It is certainly in the developer’s interest to make sure that everything is working as intended following the Joker’s MK11 release date, and fans should simply remain aware of the issue until a hotfix is deployed.
Mortal Kombat 11 is out now for PC, PS4, Stadia, Switch, and Xbox One.
