Mourinho confirmed his return to Stamford Bridge in an interview with Spanish TV football show Punto Pelota.
Mourinho told Punto Pelota: “I’m going to London on Monday and at the end of the week I will be the manager of Chelsea. I feel the people there love me and in life you have to look for that. Life is beautiful and short and you must look for what you think is best for you.”
Mourinho and Chelsea were expected to reunite for some time, with the Portuguese repeatedly teasing the media with comments about his future. The rumours of Mourinho’s return to Chelsea had grown after Real Madrid announced their decision to release Jose Mourinho from managerial duties at the end of the season.
Mourinho was present at Wembley last Monday as he was seen watching the Championship play-off final between Crystal Palace and Watford.
Mourinho first joined Chelsea in 2004 and his first campaign with them saw Chelsea secure their first domestic title in 50 years. The Blues also set a record of 95 points in the Premier League and another defensive record as they conceded just 15 goals. They reached the last four of the Champions League and also won a League Cup in that season. The next year, Chelsea successfully defended their Premier League title.
