Journey to the Savage Planet is an understated release from last year. It tasks players with exploring the untamed world of ARY-26, which is full of mysterious life. Like with a Metroidvania, players will discover items and technologies that grant them access to increasing areas of the world. Along the way, players will solve puzzles, platform, and fight against hostile wildlife in order to survive the dangers of this savage planet.

Journey to the Savage Planet was developed by Typhoon Studios, which was only just formed in early 2017. Its founders include Alex Hutchinson, which Ubisoft fans will recognize as the creative director of games including Assassin’s Creed 3 and Far Cry 4. Typhoon Studios was acquired by Google’s Stadia division in 2019, though Journey to the Savage Planet was still published for other platforms due to its publishing partnership with 505 Games.
Steam users are likely familiar by now with the way the Epic Games Store’s exclusivity contracts work. Epic typically provides upfront cash to game developers for temporary exclusivity on PC. In Journey to the Savage Planet’s case, the contract appears to have been for one year. Clearly, 505 isn’t wasting any time given the game’s release date on Steam.
Journey to the Savage Planet is available now on PC, PS4, Switch, and Xbox One.
